Essentials of Culturally Responsive Practice Training for Judicial Officers

Our training explores the concept of culture and culturally responsive approaches, and provides practical guidelines that can be incorporated when working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (in particular, migrants and refugees) within the judicial system.

What is Culturally Responsive Practice?

Cultural responsiveness means the capacity of workers to provide services that are respectful of, and relevant to, the beliefs, practices, cultural, and linguistic needs of diverse populations and communities.

Training Objectives

At the completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the culturally responsive practice framework from a judicial perspective
  • Reflect on the different elements of the framework and its application to their work
  • Demonstrate an understanding of what culture is
  • Reflect on opportunities for growth to build on skills and practices
  • Recognise the importance of reflection and evaluation
  • Understand the Recommended National Standards for Working with Interpreters in Courts and Tribunals
  • Implement the Standards into practice
